LAND NETWORK

at the leading edge of recycling waste to land

                                                 MATERIALS

Generally speaking, we aim to take materials which are of benefit to the land.  So, if it is biodegradable or contains mineral nutrients that we need to grow crops, then we can take it and would wish to do so.  However, legislation and regulation do not always allow us to do that.  Each of our sites may have its own local permissions.

Small-scale Sites
Generally, these can take green waste from people’s gardens and civic amenity sites, local authority twin-bin collections and landscape gardener’s output.  Usually they can take timber products which are “clean” including virgin timber, MDF, chipboard, hardboard and other composite timber and boards provided they do not have paints, organic solvent-based preservatives or plastic surfaces on them.  The sites can also usually take paper products, crop residues, vegetable residues from packing stations and animal manures.

Larger Sites with Environmental Permits
These can usually take a much wider range of materials including solids and liquids.

Direct Spreading to Land
We can arrange direct spreading to land almost anywhere in the country and this would cover a wide range of solids and liquids where they are suitable from an agricultural point of view.

Summary
We are not, and never will be, in the waste disposal business.  We never dispose of anything.  We are in the ‘recycle to land’ business for the benefit of that land, where our members not only work, but also live, and will hand the land on to their children.  We will only take materials which has reasonable evidence of being of benefit to our land, and which is acceptable to ourselves, the Environment Agency and the local planners.  It is also important to note that, if we believe there is benefit and the risks can be contained, but regulation or the regulators will not give us permission to proceed, we are quite happy to put in significant effort to work towards a change of attitude so that we can handle that material within the law.

We are in the business of recycling to land.  Farmers have done it for thousands of years.  We recognise that we will play an active part in developing safe and long-term sustainability.
